Helping a father and son retain contact

Private Law (Child Arrangements Programme (CAP))

28 November 2023

Ronald represented a father who had become frustrated and at the point of giving up having a normal relationship with his child, because of the mother’s objections at every turn.

This case involved a mother who was implacably hostile towards the child spending any time with the father. At every stage of what became protracted proceedings, she found new reasons why contact should not happen. Numerous applications were made by the mother during the proceedings for different experts to be instructed to substantiate her allegations against the father, which were all successfully opposed.

At the final hearing the mother conceded through Ronald’s effective cross-examination that the reason for her opposition to the father seeing the child was simply her own reluctance to be separated from the child.

The father is now seeing his child regularly, including holidays abroad.
