Kevin acted for the father of a young child. The family had recently suffered a tragedy and were struggling emotionally. The local authority was seeking the child’s removal from the parents’ care on the grounds of neglect, and had begun care proceedings.
Kevin was able to work sensitively with the family, and the local authority, to ensure that their difficult circumstances were taken into account. After careful consideration, the local authority acknowledged the fact that the parents had been through a difficult time and noted that they had made considerable improvements in their parenting of the child.
As a result, the local authority agreed at an early stage in the proceedings not to seek the child’s removal. A supervision order was agreed on the basis that the local authority would monitor the situation and provide some support.
