Supporting a Mother with learning disabilities represented by the Official Solicitor.

Marie represented a Mother in care proceedings in relation to her two young children. The Mother had considerable disabilities and was represented by the Official Solicitor as a result.

Although ultimately in this case, Marie’s client accepted she could not care for the children because of her disabilities, Marie ensured that all the appropriate assessments and investigations were carried out in order to establish whether she could care for her children, and that the process and hearing respected all of the rights of a parent with learning disabilities involved in care proceedings as set out by Munby P in Re D (A Child) (2016) EWFC 1.
