Taking evidence from a child witness in a trial concerning a racially aggravated offence

Rachel successfully prosecuted a Defendant for racially abusing a woman in front of her two young children. One of the children was a key witness, required to give evidence by video link, who had to relate the distressing event.

Rachel’s friendly and supportive manner allowed the child witness to give the clearest possible evidence. Her careful case preparation also meant that she was able to pre-empt the likely Defence points and deal with them in examination in chief rather than allow the Defence to raise them first in cross-examination.
