Opposing an Interim Care Order

Sophie represented a father in opposing the making of an Interim Care Order. The application was made by the Local Authority, based on a history of domestic abuse between the parents that spanned several years. Both parents had significant mental health issues that had also raised concerns with the Local Authority.

Sophie’s ability to build relationships with her clients enabled her to hold frank discussions with the father and the paternal grandmother to ascertain the best way forward – remaining focused on the child’s best interest.

Due to her experience in representing clients with a history of domestic violence, Sophie was able to adequately address the issues raised by the Local Authority with the client and propose a new way forward, ensuring that the child was not removed at the interim stage
