Returning a child to a mother’s care

Sandria represented a Mother throughout a case which involved alcohol and drug misuse, coupled with the death of a child while in the client’s care.

Sandria’s particular approach was to establish a good working relationship with her client, working with her in a non-judgmental, supportive and encouraging way. This helped the Mother to address her problems and understand the need to work cooperatively with the Local Authority whilst accessing the necessary support to move her life forward.

As well as supporting her as she addressed her issues, Sandria helped her client to work with the Local Authority, demonstrating a high level of co-operation. This approach enabled a plan of rehabilitation of the elder child to the mother’s care, with a high level of support identified in the maternal and paternal sides of the family.

The elder child was returned to the Mother’s care under a one year supervision order.
