Jonathan Brooks – Pupil

Jonathan was called to the Bar of England and Wales in November 2018. Before joining Becket Chambers in 2023, he was also called to the Bar of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in 2019, practising as an Attorney-at-Law specialising in Commercial Law, Insurance Law, Employment Law, and financial remedies in Family Law.

As a Pupil Barrister in his Second Six at Becket Chambers, Jonathan is building a busy practice in a range of areas of Civil Law and Family Law.

In Civil Law, Jonathan is instructed in disputes relating to contractual law, negligence and chancery, and also acts in hearings involving forfeiture and condemnation proceedings. In court, he represents clients in small claims trials, fast-track trials, possession matters and directions hearings. Additionally, he is frequently instructed to draft pleadings in civil litigation, and to provide written advice.

In Family Law, Jonathan is building his practice around Matrimonial Finance and invites instructions in these matters. His commercial sense and analytical approach to distribution of assets, along with having specialised in the Matrimonial Causes Act during his Master’s studies, give him particular strengths in this area. In court, he currently represents clients at First Appointment Hearings and Financial Dispute Resolution hearings. Jonathan regularly provides written advice to clients in this area.

Jonathan also represents clients in Private Family Law matters dealing primarily with applications stemming from the Family Law Act as well as the Children Act.

Jonathan’s clients highly appreciate his methodical approach, meticulous attention to detail, and robust advocacy in court. He thoroughly prepares each case, carefully discussing all possible scenarios with his clients to ensure they fully understand their position and potential outcomes.
